QUEEN MAB

Commissioned by the Shanghai Theatre Academy and premiered at the Performance Studies International conference 2014, this experimental theatre production brought together devising theatre performers with specialists in Shakespeare and Chinese Opera to have these traditions meet head on.

Mashing together the text, music and plots of canonical pieces from classical English and Chinese theatre traditions, the production explored form, physicality, and audience's assumptions on both traditions to tell the story of contemporary Shanghai.
